480 Spadina Ave… those who know, know. In this mix I try to bring some of the vibes that you’d encounter at this location, but with a more surface-level approach in track selection.
One of the challenges of making a mix, especially in underground dance music, is deciding how far down the rabbit hole you want to go. The rabbit hole is deep and fun to explore, but you risk losing people along the way. If you don’t go far enough, it’s not exciting.
So sometimes I do a rabbit hole mix and push deeper, and sometimes I do a mix like this – dancing around the rabbit hole, but not going down too far. It’s testing all the boundaries and trying to find a vibe that is different and unique, yet still sounds good to people.
Some popular tracks keep this mix surface level, but with driving grooves, heavy basslines, and the odd mind-melting melody, there’s some hint of the rabbit hole you’d be in at 480 Spadina.
